Garwood, one of the smallest local boroughs, has a population of less than 5,000 and a mix of residential areas, retail stores and manufacturing businesses in under one square mile. Garwood Public Schools serve students from kindergarten through eighth grade, after which they attend Arthur L. Johnson High School in neighboring Clark as part of a sending/receiving relationship with the Clark Public School District. Bisected by the railroad tracks of the Raritan Valley Line, Garwood has limited scheduled service to Newark Penn station, and bus service to Newark and New York City.
